Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
